MOUTONSHOEK DRAFT TO STAR AT CAPE SALE
9 March 2017

Moutonshoek has enjoyed a steady stream of success this season with past graduates winning consistently all over South Africa. Among the farm’s notable graduates to recently catch the eye is Listed Lanzerac Le General Kenilworth Cup winner Smart Mart (a son of resident sire Mambo In Seattle) and brilliant, undefeated 2yo Kissable.

A daughter of Antonius Pius, Kissable looks a big runner in Saturday’s Listed Ruffian Stakes at Turffontein having won her first two outings by an aggregate of nearly 14 lengths!

Other notable recent winners bred at Moutonshoek include the progressive Mr O’Neill, a winner of three of his last four outings, and recent graded winners Triptique, Wheredowego and Fortune Fella.

Moutonshoek’s Dr Bennie Van Der Merwe is optimistic about the farm’s 2017 Cape Yearling Sale draft, saying, ““Lot 19 is a lovely colt. We hear good things about his own sister. Lot 108 is a very scopey filly - really very nice. And Lot 136 is very nicely put together with a great action.”

The farm have nine lots on offer by Canadian champion and resident sire Marchfield and four by proven sire Mambo In Seattle. Moutonshoek will also offer a yearling by former Leading First Crop Sire Gimmethegreenlight –with this colt being out of a three time winning own sister to G2 Green Point Stakes winner Royal Opinion (Lot136).

Marchfield (whose close relative Classic Empire was Champion 2YO in the US last year) has a really lovely colt in the form of lot 19 –whose dam is a half-sister to stakes winning sprinter Monterey Star.
The son of A P Indy also has an intriguing prospect in the form of lot 20 –a filly (whose damsire Al Mufti is closely related to A P Indy) out of a winning half-sister to champion Texan Summer from the same family as recent classic winner Janoobi.

The durable Marchfield, who earned more than $1 000 000 during his career, is also responsible for a colt out a half-sister to G2 winner Western Walk (Lot 38), a filly from the same family as French 2000 Guineas winner Moulines (Lot 56), a filly whose dam is an own sister to G3 winner Master Of Note (Lot 69), a colt whose dam is a full sister to multiple G1 winner Surveyor (Lot 90), a half-brother to 3 winners from a prolific US family (Lot 109), a colt out of a half-sister to G2 performer Platinum Jet from the family of 2017 Gauteng Guineas hero Janoobi (Lot 116), and a half brother to a six time winner from the family of a former top class Australian two-year-old (Lot 131).

The regally bred Mambo In Seattle (by Kingmambo out of an own sister to A P Indy) is a proven sire, with his top runners including dual G1 winner Same Jurisdiction (subsequently exported), G1 performer Mambo Mime and high class stakes winners Fortune Fella and Smart Mart. He is the sire of a half-sister to 2 winners (bred like G3 winner Fortune Fella) from the family of champion sprinter Senor Santa (Lot 48), a beautifully bred colt (intensely inbred to great broodmare Weekend Surprise) out of a winning daughter of top class filly Sporting Model –a desperately unlucky loser of the SA Oaks (Lot 65), a colt out of an Al Mufti-half sister to the ill-fated but smart performer Meissa (Lot 89) and a filly from the same family as outstanding fillies Circle Of Life (dam of G2 winner Deo Juvente), Taima Bluff and Tecla Bluff (Lot 108).
