Some of South Africa’s most exciting young stallions will be represented by members of their first crop at this month’s KZN Yearling Sale.
There are no fewer than eleven first crop sires represented at the 2017 KZN Yearling Sale, namely -

ATO - a G1 winning sprinter from the same male line as champion Silvano, Ato has four first crop yearlings on sale, with his draft including a filly out of the stakes placed winner of four Beyond Reproach (Lot 166), a colt from the same family as G1 SA Nursery winner Royal Glitter (Lot 100) and a colt out of a daughter of a Golden Slipper winner (Lot 136).

DUKE MARMALADE –Cartier Champion and five time G1 winner, this world class sire is responsible for classic winners/G1 winners Simple Verse, Star Of Seville, Nutan and Sound Of Freedom –as well as 2017 G1 Ascot Gold Cup hope Big Orange. His two yearlings (from his first local crop) include a filly out of G3 winner Katy’s Lane (Lot 272) and a half-sister to One Cool Dude, who defeated champion Futura when victorious in the 2014 G3 Cup Trial (Lot 25).

JACKSON –A triple G1 winning son of Dynasty from the same family as champion US sire Smart Strike, Jackson’s first crop have already made waves –with a Jackson filly having fetched up to R2 million earlier this year. His five lots on offer here include a colt from the same family as champion Protectionist and Peintre Celebre (Lot 16), a colt from the same family as Breeders’ Cup Mile winner and champion US sire Cozzene (damsire of Jackson himself) (Lot 91), a colt from the family of leading sires Invincible Spirit and Kodiac (Lot 121) and a half-sister to G2 filly London (Lot 144).

MASTER OF MY FATE –Winner of both the G2 Premier Trophy and G2 Peninsula Handicap, Master Of My Fate, who won six of eight starts, is a son of champions Jet Master and Promisefrommyheart. He has seven members of his first crop on offer here –including a colt out of stakes placed four time winner Splendid Sun (Lot 107), a colt out of a ½ sister to Met winner Martial Eagle (Lot 153), a colt from the same family as G1 winners Nania, Red Ray and Set Afire (Lot 196), and a half-sister to multiple stakes winning filly Pure Power (Lot 271).

NOBLE TUNE – A multiple Graded Stakes winner and G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf runner up, the regally bred Noble Tune, a half-brother to US champion and multiple G1 winner Honor Code, shares his outstanding sire Unbridled’s Song with more than 100 stakes winners –including the world’s current top runner, Arrogate. He has a big draft of 22 on offer here –including a filly out of a stakes placed winner of four (Lot 21), a filly out of a G3 performer and three time winner (Lot 23), a half-sister to current smart filly Vision To Kill (Lot 73), a filly whose dam is a ½ sister to champion Night Diva (Lot 94), a colt out of a stakes placed winner of eight (Lot 126), a colt out of a ¾ sister to champion Fearless (Lot 143), a filly whose third dam is US G1 winner November Snow (Lot 150), a colt from the same family as current smart filly Sail (Lot 171), a half-sister to stakes winning filly Victoria Lavelle (Lot 191), a filly out of a ½ sister to Fillies Guineas second School Assembly (Lot 243), and a colt whose three time winning dam is an own sister to G1 Met winner Zebra Crossing (Lot 269).

POMODORO – A versatile July winning son of seven times champion sire Jet Master and Broodmare Of The Year Golden Apple, Pomodoro has 2 first crop yearlings on offer here -a filly whose dam is an own sister to G1 Computaform Sprint winner Rodoille (Lot 24) and a nicely bred colt from the same family as Pomodoro’s sire Jet Master (Lot 175).

POTALA PALACE –A G1 winner at two, when beating top sire Gimmethegreenlight, Potala Palace is a son of champion Singspiel and from the same family as top sires Sadler’s Wells, Nureyev, Fairy King and Reform. He has five first crop yearlings on sale including- a half-brother to this season’s G3 winning 2yo Neptune’s Rain (Lot 138), a filly out of a ½ sister to G3 winner Olympic Gold (Lot 180), and a filly whose third dam is champion and Breeders’ Cup winner Royal Heroine (Lot 260).

REDOUTE’S PROMISE-The regally bred Redoute’s Promise is a son of triple Australian champion sire Redoute’s Choice (whose sire sons include the brilliant Snitzel, and is also sire of recent local G1 winners Rafeef and Mustaaqeem) and SA/Australian G1 winner Perfect Promise. He has a single first crop yearling on sale here –a colt out of G2 Gauteng Fillies Guineas third Paint The Town Red, herself a half-sister to 2 stakes horse, including G2 Merchants winner Mike’s Choice (Lot 42).

THE APACHE –This Storm Cat grandson was an Equus Champion, and dual G1 winner in South Africa, whose international exploits saw him finish first past the post in the G1 Arlington Million and bank more than R17 million. He has just one yearling here –a filly out of a winning half-sister to this season’s top filly Safe Harbour, who has already earned more than R2.3 million (Lot 249).

THE ASSAYER –A G1 performer at two, The Assayer is a son of the world’s greatest sire Galileo (sire of more than 60 G1 winners to date) and is bred on the same cross as two top class sires in Teofilo and unbeaten legend Frankel –to name but two. He has one yearling here –a colt from the same family as top miler National Spirit and champions Cherry On The Top, Classic Flag and Lady Windermere (Lot 37).

WHERE’S THAT TIGER –A classic placed son of champion sire Storm Cat, and out of a sister to a Kentucky Derby winner, Where’s That Tiger has already been represented by a handful of runners in South Africa –including the high class performers Tiger’s Touch, Supertube, Samurai Blade and Tiger Quest. He has 3 of his first SA crop on offer –a filly out of a half-sister to champion sire Jet Master (Lot 17), a colt out of a daughter of Oaks winner Royal Prophecy (Lot 71), and a filly out of a half-sister to dual G1 winner Happy Archer (Lot 223).
