David Southey will be offering eight quality lots at the 2017 KZN Yearling Sale, to take place at the Sibaya Casino on Thursday and Friday.
Southford Stud’s draft is made up of six lots, plus two yearlings offered by the stud as agent.

First of the Southford draft on offer is lot 118, a colt by successful Kingmambo stallion Ideal World, sire of recent graded stakes winners Hermoso Mundo and Zante, as well as champion Smart Call, who ran such a good race at Royal Ascot recently. This colt is out of a winning daughter of a dual Guineas winner and is from the same family as none other than US Horse Of The Year and G1 Breeders’ Cup Distaff winner Lady’s Secret.

Next up, is lot 161, a filly by Singspiel’s G1 winning son and champion Lateral. The filly, a half-sister to a three time winner, is out of a winning half-sister to G2 Colorado King Stakes winner Captain’s Wild. Her dam, by Count Dubois (sire of July favourite Edict Of Nantes), is from the same family as European champions Kris and Diesis –as well as Count Dubois himself!

Oasis Dream’s July Cup runner up Main Aim is the sire of lot 167, a filly out of a multiple winning daughter of champion sire Silvano. Her second dam is a half-sister to 2 stakes winners, including G1 SA Nursery winner Travis McGee.

Another by the blue blooded Main Aim in this draft is lot 248 –a half-brother to 4 winners including the stakes placed winner of eight Cedar.

Captains Love is the name of lot 181, a bay filly by former leading first crop sire Lateral. This filly is a half-sister to the very smart six time winner Captain’s Diva and is out of a winning Captain Al half-sister to eight time stakes performer Cedar.

Another nice sort by Lateral is lot 211, a half-sister to useful winner Desert Chief (whose dam is a winning Western Winter half-sister to feature race winner Opera Cloak), while Lateral’s daughter Vertical (Lot 276) is from the same family as such European classic winners as Dr Devious (Epsom Derby) and Dancing Rain (Epsom Oaks).

Silvano’s July winning son Bold Silvano has made a pleasing start to his stud career and the former Equus Champion is the sire of lot 185, a bay filly whose winning Jallad dam is out of a ½ sister to four stakes horses including G3 Acacia Handicap winner Hurricane Queen.
