The Power of finding a Sparkling Gem is in your Pocket!
27 January 2010
WITH Pocket Power approaching the R10-million mark in career stake earnings in Saturday’s J&B Met, the R190 000 paid for him at  BSA’s Cape Summer Yearling Sale in 2004 pales into insignificance.
Another Met hopeful, Mother Russia, a R160,000 buy in 2007, has earned R2.1 million so far and doesn’t look like stopping. The third Met runner bought at a BSA Cape Yearling Sale is Fabiani, a value buy at R60,000 and earning more than R450,000 to date.  Sparkling Gem, bought for a mere R85,000 in 2007, has padded the bank accounts of her owners with R1.3 million and can earn another chunk of cash in Saturday’s Klawervlei Majorca Stakes.
The likes of Burberry (85k, 2007) Villandry (60k, 2008), Diana’s Choice (130k, 2006), State Factor (340k, 2006) and Ivory Trail (230k, 2006) are all BSA Cape Yearling Sale graduates, making the 2010 renewal of this champion producing sale an absolute must for serious buyers.
The catalogue has plenty of interesting entries, including the progeny of all the established stallions and no less than thirteen freshman sires.
There is only one way to find your champion. Obtain a catalogue, do your homework and make sure you are ringside on Sunday, 7 February, when the sale commences at 11am. A total of 254 lots will pass through the auctioneer’s ring.
