Ancestral Fore Wins Canon Gold Cup (Gr 1)
28 June 2010

The premier race for stayers, the Grade One Canon Gold Cup, run at Greyville on Saturday, 26 June 2010 was won by a three year old for the first time since 1988.  Ancestral Fore (Dynasty x Forefront) was bred by Hymie Maisel’s Hyjo Stud and sold at the Cape Yearling Sale in 2008 for a mere R27,500.
This victory marked the first Gold Cup win for jockey Kevin Shea.  “I had a close second on Double Reef and a few other places in the Gold Cup so this is a welcome win”, said Shea.
As reported on Racing Web, Trainer Mike de Kock said: “Ancestral Fore is versatile and he will take his place in the Durban July before leaving for Dubai.” De Kock at this meeting smashed ruling Champion trainer Charles Laird’s magnificent R16,6 million in gross stakes, a record set last season. With three further wins in the bag the stable’s gross earnings for 2009/10 have rocketed beyond the R17 million-mark.

Our congratulations to owner Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum and all connections.
