Captain Lars Wins Again

THE remarkable Klawervlei Stud bred gelding Captain Lars was at it again at Lingfield on Wednesday.

Ridden by Oisin Murphy, Captain Lars made all to record a 2.25 length win over More Than Ready gelding Alkashaaf in the 1200m contest. In the process, the ever green gelding made it two wins from his last three outings.

Trained by Archie Watson, Captain Lars has now recorded 15 wins in all –with ten of the gelding’s victories having been scored in the United Kingdom. The remarkably durable campaigner who was having his eight run outing since the start of February has now won or placed in no fewer than 30 races.

Captain Lars, a CTS Premier Yearling Sales purchase who was victorious in the 2014 Listed Drum Star Handicap in South Africa, is a son of Klawervlei’s late, great sire Captain Al.

Champion Sire in South Africa in 2014-2015, and eight times champion sire of 2yos, Captain Al has enjoyed another remarkable season in 2017-2018, with his top performers including the G1 winners Snowdance, Tap O’ Noth and Sergeant Hardy.

Captain Al, whose legacy looks to live on through his exciting sire sons Captain Of All and William Longsword –as well as a large number of top class daughters, has four lots on offer at the 2018 April Yearling Sale, including a filly out of Trippi’s regally bred G1 placed daughter Not Sulking (Lot 17) and a ¾ sister to the Captain Al sired stakes winners Captain In Command and Canadian Sunset (Lot 23).

His champion son Captain Of All, whose first crop are yearlings in 2018, is also well represented at the April Sale, with the triple G1 winner sire of 21 of the lots on offer.
