20 Wins For SAF-bred Captain Lars In Britain

 

The remarkable Klawervlei Stud-bred Captain Lars scored the 20th victory of his stellar career when winning a good race at Ffos Las on Monday.

The evergreen nine-year-old, dispatched the 6-5 favourite, made all to win the Interbet.com Handicap over 1000m for trainer Archie Watson and rider Edward Greatrex by 2.75 lengths.

In the process, Captain Lars made it win number eight for the year. Winner of the 2014 Listed Drum Star Handicap in South Africa, Captain Lars has won no fewer than 15 races since relocating to Britain and has proved a wonderful advertisement for the quality and durability of horses bred by Klawervlei.

He is by Klawervlei’s late champion sire Captain Al, whose major representatives in 2017-2018 included the Grade 1 winners Captain America, Snowdance, Tap O’ Noth and Undercover Agent.

Captain Lars is out of the Polar Falcon mare Polar Charge, runner up in the 2000 Grade 1 Oaks d’Italia (Italian Oaks).

Polar Charge is a three-parts sister to outstanding sire Pivotal (by Polar Falcon), who was represented by his 28th individual Group 1 winner this year when his son Lightning Spear captured the Qatar Sussex Stakes. Captain Lars is a full brother to Klipdrif Stud’s exciting new sire for 2018, Always In Charge.

Always In Charge was a brilliant juvenile, whose wins included the Grade 1 Tsogo Sun Gold Medallion at Scottsville.

The colt, retired to stud having banked more than R1 million in prize money, was South Africa’s Equus Champion 2YO Colt of 2015-2016.
