The TBA pays tribute to Chris Gerber

It is with shock and great sadness that the TBA learnt of the passing of Chris Gerber, a passionate racing and breeding man. As an owner, having grown up attending the races with his father, he loved his racing, and through Moutonshoek Stud Farm had expanded that passion into breeding. Direct and to the point, Chris was never one to mince words, and no-one was ever in doubt where they stood with him.

He was as quick with his wit as he was with a blunt opinion or factual correction, and the laughs and banter always flowed as freely as the drinks and music in the Moutonshoek pub at the TBA Sales Complex. While he invested much in their own breeding stock, Chris was also a strong supporter of other breeders at the sales and enjoyed much success on the track, racing as sole owner and in a variety of partnerships.

Being the generous person that he was, Chris also gave of his time, outside of his business and was a board member of the RA and chairman of the Racing Trust. He will be sorely missed throughout the industry, and the TBA Sales Complex in Johannesburg will be a much quieter place without his presence.

On behalf of all the Thoroughbred Breeders, our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with Bridgie, his children Matt, Josie, Georgie and Katie, and all his family and friends.
