Drakenstein homebred Fresnaye had been off the track for 16 weeks, but was produced pitch-perfect by Joey Ramsden to claim the Gr.3 Victress Stakes.

Shaken up in the Kenilworth straight, she quickened into the lead 150m from home and swept to an impressive victory, her first at Graded level.

The four-year-old had enjoyed a fruitful sophomore season during which she claimed the Listed Stormsvlei Mile and Winter Oaks, on top of which she earned Gr.1 black type when third in both the Paddock Stakes and Cape Fillies Guineas.

Fresnaye is one of 92 Stakes winners sired by Gone West’s champion son Western Winter and hails from a stellar female line, her third dam being the blue hen Fall Aspen (Pretense). She is out of the beautifully bred Gulf Breeze (Dubai Destination), whose siblings include Gr.1 performers and sires Medaaly and Charnwood Forest. Grandam Dance Of Leaves (Sadler’s Wells), is an own sister to Fort Wood.
