The Maine Chance Farms based Equus Champion Vercingetorix has made an extremely promising start with his first two-year-olds this season, and the multiple G1 winning son of Silvano was responsible for a second winner, from two runners, when his son Astrix romped home over 1000m at Greyville on Sunday.

Third on debut, the Riverton Stud bred Astrix made no mistakes when shedding his maiden at just the second time of asking for trainer Paul Peter and jockey Lyle Hewitson.

Astrix put daylight between himself and favourite Agent Murphy when scoring a 3.25 length win and he looks a smart prospect in the making.

Out of the Victory Moon mare Victory Dance, Astrix was a R60 000 buy from the 2018 Cape Yearling Sale.

His sire Vercingetorix’s only previous starter was brilliant debut winner Fearless Warrior (also out of an Al Mufti line mare) and the former Equus Champion (who himself was unraced at two) looks a very exciting sire prospect indeed.

Vercingetorix, who shares his multiple champion sire Silvano with current stars Hawwaam and Silvano’s Pride, has seven lots on offer at the 2019 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
