Sporting Post reports that Anton Marcus, who famously won the Gr1 Dubai Duty Free on SA star Jay Peg in 2008, will partner the Mike de Kock-trained Majestic Mambo in the US$6 million Gr1 Dubai Turf to be run over 1800m at Meydan on Saturday.

Jay Peg won the US$5 million Dubai Duty Free in sensational fashion, showing determination to fight back after being headed.

Relive that here

Marcus had to overcome a shifting saddle in the shadow of the post that threatened to unseat him as he tried to pull up the victorious SAF-bred Jay Peg.

The former Paul Peter trained Majestic Mambo made his first appearance in Dubai in the Gr1 Jebel Hatta over 1800m on turf at Meydan. He ran a decent enough race, despite a lack of fitness to run out of the money.

Not having run since fourth in the 2018 Gr1 Durban July, the handsome athlete was not wound up due to a lack of time in training in Dubai and had only been with the De Kock team for a few weeks.

Majestic Mambo, who now runs in the Wilgerbosdrift black and scarlet, was gelded in quarantine.

Majestic Mambo – major improvement anticipated

He was unsold off the 2016 Cape Premier Yearling Sale, but subsequently astutely acquired by trainer Paul Peter for R40 000 off the Lanzerac Ready To Run Sale.

Bred by Moutonshoek, Majestic Mambo is a son of Mambo In Seattle (Kingmambo) out of the one-time winning Regal Classic (Al Mufti) – who won at 2400m.

The Sporting Post was originally incorrectly informed by a source that Bernard Fayd’herbe would ride Majestic Mambo – the Cape heavyweight rider, who booted home a double at Durbanville on Saturday, will in fact partner Yulong Prince (formerly Surcharge) in the same race.
