Budding Auctioneer Fiso Hadebe is ready to take on some tough competition in the next round of the South African Auction Championships in Parys today.
The 19 year old Fiso, who has been sponsored by Bloodstock South Africa, was bitten by the ‘gavel bug’ during his days as a student at the Weston Agricultural College and has since made massive strides in one of the most specialised and pressured occupations on earth.
“It’s an amazing rush and a challenge to go up on to the podium and determine the price and destiny of a particular product. It gives me a great sense of satisfaction to know that I have been instrumental in achieving a win-win for vendor and purchaser,” he says, as he recalls how he has overcome his initial shyness.
“I came second in 2017 and won in 2018 and can feel that with the professional input and coaching of top men like Steve Davis, I have grown dramatically. I attended the BSA sales at Sibaya and Germiston and must say that the heady dynamics of the thoroughbred arena is a whole new exciting world. I was restricted to bid-spotting but learnt so much from the exposure, I hope to be at the Ready To Run Sale on 3 November,” he said.
One of the most respected men in the profession, New Zealander Steve Davis is a regular member of the BSA team. It was once said that the veteran brings `Joie De Vivre’ to the sale arena.

Fiso, who has demonstrated that he has a sensible head on his young shoulders and built-in ambition, is pursuing his Human Resources studies at Varsity College while he enjoys the world of auctioneering and develops his skills.
BSA CEO Michael Holmes, who himself has wielded the gavel, wished Fiso every success today and said that he was an outstanding young man who had a bright future.
“Conducting an auction requires a host of skills from a knowledge of your customers, the product and the industry, to a witty mouth and a sharp mind. Like an airline pilot on take-off, the pulse never stops racing when the bidding begins! We at BSA are doing our utmost to encourage and assist Fiso and we are appreciative of Steve Davis’ guidance and mentorship,” he said in closing.
