In the 100th running of the World Sports Betting Gold Cup, this marathon feature will see two half-brothers competing against each other – Paybackthemoney and Gr1 winner, Out Of Your League.
Paybackthemoney (by Marchfield), just a R10 000 purchase off the 2017 National 2YO Sale, has earned owner Ruth Hughes almost R200 000 in stakes with 2 wins and 6 places – amongst those placing in the Gr3 Gold Vase behind last years Gold Cup winner, Dynasty’s Blossom. Elusive Fort half-brother Out Of Your League, sold for R130 000 off the 2018 National 2YO Sale, and gave trainer Fabian Habib his first Gr1 winner in the SA Derby with Raymond Danielson in the irons, who has retained the ride for the Gold Cup.
Both horses are bred by longstanding Wilgerbosdrift manager Wynand Nel, out of the unraced Lil’ Bacio by Windrush.
Their Soft Falling Rain sibling, H Two O, was purchased by Nick Jonsson for R120 000 off the National 2YO Sale in 2019. The fourth dam is the great Gr1 winning mare Party Time, who started a dynasty of her own to produce the likes of descendants Morisco, In The Fast Lane, Trademark and Clifton Queen.
