Red Ray – One Runner One Winner!

Vogel Vlei Stud based Red Ray produced his maiden first crop winner when the Waterford Stud-bred Global Glory overcame a testing cornering effort to win his second start at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday.

After placing at the city track on debut with seven lengths between between him and the fourth placed horse, Global Glory was green around the turn but found his best stride late to win the 1000m heat in a time of 61,13 secs.

The track was appropriately also the scene of his sire’s greatest effort in an impressive track record, when winning the Gr1 Mercury Sprint under Anton Marcus in 2016.

Racing for the Warren and Candiese Lenferna and Miller partnership on Sunday, Global Glory is out of the National Emblem mare, Friday’s Child.

A son of triple SA Champion Sire Western Winter, Red Ray won or placed in 13 of 16 outings while racing in South Africa and Dubai.

He scored his biggest win when running out an easy winner of the 2016 Gr1 Mercury Sprint, where the smart sprinter  accounted for nine graded stakes winners, including the Gr1 winners Real Princess, Gulf Storm, Talktothestars, and Fly By Night.

Winner of the Listed Somerset 1200 at two, the Joey Ramsden-trained Red Ray was placed in a further six graded races with these efforts including runner up finishes in all of the 2014 G1 Cape Flying Championship, 2014 Golden Horse Casino Sprint, and 2013 G1 SA Nursery.

A three-parts brother to the Western Winter sired triple G1 winner Set Afire, Red Ray s one of 11 winners – and six stakes winners – produced by the four time winning Nacarat –a half-sister to G1 winners Set Afire and Rudra.

Deceased in the week that her son won the Mercury Sprint, Nacarat is also dam of Red Ray’s G1 Thekwini Stakes winning full-sister Nania, and G2 winning own brothers Brutal Force (Merchants), and Bishop’s Bounty (Diadem Stakes).
