Silvano Film Tribute from Maine Chance Farms: Happy Birthday!

TODAY OUR SUPER SIRE TURNS 25! MAINE CHANCE ARE CELEBRATING IT WITH THE RELEASE OF THIS CAPTIVATING “SHORT FILM”

A globetrotting pioneer, Silvano was Germany’s Horse Of The Year and Champion Older Horse of 2001.

He won seven times, while earning over $4 000 000 in prize money, winning prestigious feature races in all of Germany, Hong Kong, Singapore and the USA.

Silvano’s notable wins included triumphs in all of the 2001 G1 Arlington Million, 2001 G1 Queen Elizabeth II Cup and 2001 Singapore International Cup, and he was also runner up in the G1 Man O’War Stakes.

Champion Sire in South Africa five times, sire of 99 stakes winners, (25 G1 winners) Silvano’s progeny include nine Equus Champions, as well as German champions Fair Breeze, Lucky Speed and Mi Emma

Silvano achieved a notable feat when his Maine Chance Farms bred sons Power King, Punta Arenas and Tellina finished 1-2-3 in the 2015 G1 Vodacom Durban July.

His sons include a further three G1 Vodacom Durban July winners, Bold Silvano, Heavy Metal, and Marinaresco, as well as G1 Daily News 2000/G1 Jebel Hatta hero Vercingetorix – currently one of the most exciting stallions at stud in South Africa.

In 2008 Silvano recorded an impressive Classic double when King’s Gambit won the G1 SA Derby while Happy Spirit won the G2 SA Oaks, a double repeated again in 2017 when Al Sahem won the Derby and Wind Chill captured the Oaks.

His son Hawwaam, now in training with William Haggas, was an outstanding performer, winning 10 of just 13 starts in South Africa, including all of the G1 SA Classic, G1 Daily News 2000, and G1 H F Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut Stakes.

Silvano has also sired some outstanding fillies, with his daughters including reigning South African Horse Of The Year Summer Pudding, fellow Summer Cup winner Flirtation, Cape Fillies Guineas winners Field Flower and Silver Mountain, and the G1 winners Do You Remember, Happy Valentine, Orchid Island, and Silvano’s Pride.

Broodmare sire of graded stakes winners Barahin, Cosmic Highway, Cosmic Light, Goodtime Gal, and Wonderwall, Silvano’s G1 Woolavington 2000 winning daughter Do You Remember dam of a useful winner in North America in the form of Burning Ambition

Silvano’s yearlings have made up to R9 000 000 – with his son Masaki the most expensive yearling ever sold in South Africa. With a career as stellar as this, we have put together a film to celebrate his big day, we hope you enjoy it. Thank you to Andrew Bon for the stunning work.
