Gr1 sire Duke Of Marmalade enjoyed a phenomenal day at Fairview, producing four winners and a place – in the process providing two winners for the combination of Gavin Smith and jockey Lyle Hewitson – who each achieved a milestone of 100 winners and 200 winners ridden respectively!
The ultra consistent Agrademarmalade broke his juvenile maiden after placing 4 times – three of those in 2nd place – to win for breeders Ndoro Stud for owner Mr C Goncalves.
Imperious Duke, bred by Lammerskraal Stud out of Imperious Star, won for the second occasion over 2200m.
Madam Seville, bred by Golden Touch Thoroughbreds in partnership with Mr Kidd, has enjoyed a recent purple patch – with the last four starts being two 2nds and the 2nd win on the trot for the 3yo filly trained by Tara Laing.
3yo Gelding Pacific Duke, bred by Drakenstein and out of Pacific Dynasty broke his maiden after placing three times previously, winning with ease by over two lengths for trainer Sharon Kotzen.
According to www.nhra.co.za, Duke Of Marmalade is enjoying 43.2% winners to runners, two Black Type wins and 87 wins for the season, with over R5,3-million in stakes earned.
A winner of five consecutive Gr1 races himself, voted Champion Older Horse of Europe and Timeform Rated at 132, Duke Of Marmalade is the sire of South African Gr1 winner Temple Grafin, he is the sire of international Champions Simple Verse, Marmelo and Big Orange amongst others. His other local stars include True To Life, Saint Clara and Seville Orange, and he is the sire of Heversham Park’s young stallion Moofeed.
