The first to kick off was the Gelykfontein-bred daughter out of a Miesque’s Approval mare who earned a cheque on debut when finishing behind now Gr2 winner Maryah, and won very smartly second time out under Jared Samuel.
Unsold on a BSA Online Auction, she was leased to James Rich who put together a syndicate and they have been rewarded with a smart win going away in her second time of asking. Her dam is a half-sister to Ingleside, with Evening Mist found under the 3rd dam. Maggie Kay and Queen Laurie are also in the mix.
Keeping it in Colesburg where Admiral Kitten stands, breeder David Southey enjoyed a win as an owner in the following race with Family Favourite bred by Moutonshoek and purchased by David for R50 000 off the 2020 National 2YO Sale, out of a Brazilian mare Parfait.
The filly won under apprentice Donald Geerthsen at the fifth time of asking. This is the family of Equus Champion 3YO filly in 2010, the Brazilian bred Here To Win.
Admiral Kitten, like Lammerskraal sire Visionaire he is out of a Grand Slam mare Reachinforthestars and stands at David Southey’s Southford Stud. He won the Gr1 Secretariat Stakes (2000m) as well as a Gr3 and and a Listed, and placed in placed in 5 other Group races, including two Gr1’s. His sire Kittens Joy has been champion turf sire on four occasions.
