BSA GRADUATES DOMINATE FAIRVIEW FEATURES

Bloodstock South Africa sold thoroughbreds dominated proceedings in Friday’s Listed races at Fairview.

Not only did BSA graduate Hoedspruit win Friday’s Listed Nelson Mandela Bay Racing Algoa Cup (2000m), promising three-year-old, and fellow Bloodstock South Africa purchase, Norton Sound romped home to an impressive win in the same day’s Listed Racing Association Stakes (1600m).

 

One of three winners on the card for breeders Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, classy four-year-old Hoedspruit turned Friday’s Algoa Cup into a one horse race.

Under Richard Fourie, the Justin Snaith trained gelding pulled well clear in the closing stages of the Algoa Cup to storm home to a two and a half length win.

 

Racing for owner Suzette Viljoen, Hoedspruit was a R280 000 buy from the 2019 Cape Yearling Sale.

The son of former Horse Of The Year, and National Yearling Sale star, Legislate, Hoedspruit has now won five of his 13 starts, including last season’s G3 World Sports Betting Legal Eagle Stakes, for earnings of nearly R400 000.

 

Hoedspruit is out of the placed mare Londalozi, a daughter of Drakenstein Stud’s very much inform stallion Trippi.

The Lammerskraal Stud bred Norton Sound picked up his first black type win when romping home to an easy win in Friday’s Listed Racing Association Stakes -a race won previously by such champions as Big City Life and Bold Silvano.

 

Under Ryan Munger, the Visionaire sired three-year-old made it four wins from just eight starts when scoring by a length and three-quarters.

Racing for Messrs Andre Van Schaik, Gavin Smith, M B Manthe, Kenny K Govender, Rajan Naidoo, P Govender, Adv N R Naidoo & Mrs D Jithoo , the Gavin Smith trained Norton Sound was a R100 000 buy from the 2020 National Yearling Sale.

 

Runner up in both the Listed East Cape Nursery and Listed Dahlia Plate last season, Norton Sound is a half-brother to Listed East Cape Oaks queen Widow’s Lamp, with the pair produced by Western Winter’s four time winning daughter Iditarod.
