BIG WEEKEND FOR BSA GRADUATES

BIG WEEKEND FOR BSA GRADUATES

Alumni of Bloodstock South Africa sales enjoyed a fine weekend this past week, with BSA graduates winning all of the G2 World Sports Betting 1900, Listed Syringa Handicap, Listed WSB East Cape Derby and Listed WSB Dahlia Plate.

Former South African Horse Of The Year Do It Again, a R1 100 000 buy from the 2018 National Yearling Sale, brought the house down at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday when scoring an emotional win in Saturday’s G2 World Sports Betting 1900 (1900m).

Under a confident ride from Anton Marcus, the Justin Snaith trained seven-year-old swept into the lead some way from home and Do It Again powered away to score by an emphatic near two lengths.

The 2022 World Sports Betting 1900 proved another great result for Bloodstock South Africa, with BSA graduates Do It Again and Mount Anderson filling the first two positions.

Bred by the Northfields Stud, Do It Again has now won nine of his 28 starts for earnings in excess of R9.249 million.

The gelded son of Twice Over is a confirmed Greyville specialist, with Do It Again having now won five graded races at Greyville, including the G1 Vodacom Durban July in both 2018-2019.

Do It Again, a five time Equus Award winner, races for Nick Jonsson, Bernard Kantor and Nancy Hossack.

Bloodstock South Africa graduates had also dominated feature race action at Fairview a day earlier, with BSA buys Chollima and Ekoria landing Friday’s Listed World Sports Betting East Cape Derby and Listed World Sports Betting Dahlia Plate respectively.

Trained by Glen Kotzen, Pathfork gelding Chollina justified tote favouritism when he stormed away to win Friday’s East Cape Derby by an emphatic one and a quarter lengths.

Under a confident ride from Corne Orffer, the Dr Kritzinger bred three-year-old proved far too good for his rivals, and Chollima may be aimed at the 2022 Hollywoodbets Durban July following this win.

Racing for Messrs Kenny K Govender, T Muthusamy, K P Naidoo & Pops Soobben, Chollima was knocked down to Glen Kotzen for R50 000 at the 2020 Cape Yearling Sale, where he was consigned by the Winterbach Stud.

Exciting filly Ekoria, a R260 000 buy from the 2021 August Two Year Old Sale, showed her class when she ran out a facile, three and a quarter length winner of Friday’s Listed World Sports Betting Dahlia Plate for Gavin Smith and JP Van Der Merwe. A daughter of the very promising sire, and former National Sale buy, Futura, the Maine Chance Farms bred Ekoria made it two wins from just three starts for owners Bradley Ralph and Marc Greene.

Bloodstock South Africa’s great run continued at Turffontein on Sunday, when the classy Ululate, a R100 000 purchase off the 2019 National Yearling Sale, captured the Listed Syringa Handicap for owner-trainer St John Gray and jockey Muzi Yeni.

A daughter of Ideal World, the Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein bred filly has now won seven times and has earned over R400 000 in prize money -a great return on her purchase price indeed!
