Maine Chance Farms’ G1 winning stallion Querari had a red letter day on Saturday when the son of Oasis Dream supplied the first three finishers home in the Listed Somerset 1200, a race won last year by the brilliant Charles Dickens.
Querari colt Underworld beat fellow Querari colt Zoomie into second place in Saturday’s Hollywoodbets Kenilworth feature with Querari filly Baltic Secret finishing back in third spot. Yet another runner by Querari, Das Gute, finished fifth in the 2023 Listed Somerset 1200.
Trained by Justin Snaith (who also conditions Baltic Secret), Underworld was given a fine ride by JP Van Der Merwe, who bought his mount with a sustained late challenge, with the pair staying on strongly to hold off a game Zoomie and winning by a length and a quarter.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Underworld has now won twice from just three starts, with the Querari colt’s sole defeat thus far coming on debut when he finished fourth over 1000 metres.
Underworld, who is out of the Parade Leader mare Laverna, was an R140 000 buy from the 2022 August Two Year Old Sale.
He is the 33rd stakes winner for Querari, whose two-year-old son Questor made it two wins from just four starts when he won at Fairview on Friday afternoon.
Twice Leading Sire of 2YOs in South Africa, Querari has three lots on offer at the upcoming KZN Yearling Sale.
