Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm enjoyed a tremendous start to the year, with a double at Hollywoodbets Greyville including the Christmas Handicap Listed.
Vercingetorix filly Pinstripe won the first race of 2024, a good looking chestnut athletic filly owned by Mr AC Peter and Suzette Viljoen. Out of Bambina Stripes and a half to Gr3 placed Legitimate, Pinstripe won confidently over 1400m on turf in her stable debut for Duncan Howells. A R400 000 graduate off the National Yearling Sale, her dam by Equal Stripes won the Gr1 SA Fillies Classic.
Querari gelding Formagear won the Christmas Handicap Listed in his fourth career win, the first of a stable feature double for trainer Peter Muscutt. A R250 000 NYS graduate, Formagear is out of feature winning Ideal World mare, Peep Show. This is the family of Banbury, Dog Rose and Lord Shirldor.
In wet weather over a mile, he ran on bravely under Smanga Khumalo to finish just a length from Dynasty gelding, Imilenzeyokududuma and Cape Eagle – the latter who had placed recently to Gr1 Betway Summer Cup winner Royal Victory and See It Again.
