Gimmethegreenlight Guineas Double

It was another red letter day for Varsfontein sire Gimmethegreenlight, who produced the Guineas double at Turffontein Saturday.

Mauritzfontein have another star filly on the horizon, the now unbeaten Gr2 Wilgerbosdrift Gauteng Fillies Guineas winner, Gimme A Nother, adding the prestigious race to her unbeaten record and her third Graded Stakes victory to date.

Trained by Mike de Kock and ridden by JP van der Merwe, the Gimmethegreenlight filly is out of Nother Russia (Tiger Ridge), a two-time Gr1 winner of the HSH Princess Charlene Empress Club Stakes. Nother Russia was named Equus Champion Older Female in 2017/18, and her own dam, the brilliant Mother Russia with 13 wins in the bag including four Gr1’s was voted Equus Champion Older Mare in 2010.

It is the family of Winter Solstice and Bravura. Nother Russia has visited Danon Platina twice since the birth of Gimme A Nother, with colt Molotov Cocktail sold for R1-million to Jane Thomas at the 2023 Nationals.

Bloodstock South Africa graduate, and Equus Champion, Sandringham Summit showed his class when he ran out a hugely impressive winner of the G2 TAB Gauteng Guineas run at Turffontein on Saturday.
Winner of both the G1 World Pool Moment Of The Day Premiers Champion Stakes and G2 Durban Golden Horseshoe last season, the David Nieuwenhuizen trained star put up a dazzling performance in Saturday’s R1 000 000 contest.

Under an inform Gavin Lerena (he rode four winners on Saturday, Sandringham Summit bounced back to winning ways when he romped home to claim the Guineas by an emphatic three lengths, leaving some talented three-year-olds struggling in his wake.

It was a TAB Gauteng Guineas 1-2 finish for Bloodstock South Africa, with Guineas runner up Hotarubi having been offered for sale at the 2022 August Two Year Old Sale.

Sandringham Summit, who was bred by Varsfontein Stud for whom he now races, was a R1 700 000 purchase from the 2022 National Yearling Sale.
The colt has now won four of his eight starts with four places and stakes of R1 612 250.

The blue blooded Sandringham Summit, a half-brother to G1 winner and sire Eden Roc, is out of the Captain Al sired G2 Fillies Championship winner Townsend.

Sandringham Summit looks a hugely exciting future prospect -both as a racing and as a stud prospect!

Gimmethegreenlight is the current log leading sire in South Africa, with earnings of R11,599,713 in stakes to date.
