Mauritzfontein and Wilgerbosdrift-bred Gimme A Nother, a daughter of Mauritzfontein’s star Nother Russia (Tiger Ridge), further stamped her star status over the weekend after capturing both legs of the Wilgerbosdrift-sponsored Triple Tiara under JP van der Merwe on Saturday.
Capturing her sixth straight win to remain unbeaten, the daughter of leading sire Gimmethegreenlight cantered to victory by four lengths in the Wilgerbosdrift Sa Fillies Classic (Grade 1), defeating Silver Sanctuary, a sister to Safe Passage, Lets Go Now (a sibling to Bless My Stars) and Gr1 winner Bavarian Beauty over 1800m. Trainer Mike de Kock hinted that Gimme A Nother may not complete the Triple Tiara, but instead go for the Gr1 Empress Club Stakes on the same day.
“I’m not convinced that we’ll go that route and the Empress Club is more enticing – she will then be taking on older horses,” he said.

Wilgerbosdrift and Mauritzfontein have enjoyed tremendous success over the years with the likes of Cherry On The Top and Summer Pudding – the latter who was undefeated at a point from nine runs and captured the hearts of the public.
Nother Russia has had one colt sell to date, a handsome grey by Danon Platina named Molotov Cocktail. He was knocked down to Jane Thomas for R1-million at the 2023 National Yearling Sale. Molotov Cocktail was her 2021 produce, and Nother Russia was returned back to Danon Platina the following year where she produced a filly named Special Star.
Gimme A Nother is the second foal for the beautiful flashy chestnut mare Nother Russia, crowned Equus Champion Older Female in 2017/18, with eight wins including the Gr1 Empress Club Stakes on two occasions and ridden to victory her entire career by Craig Zackey.

It’s also been a special story for the de Kock family, who have trained three generations of this family to Gr1 wins.
Mother Russia has indeed left a legacy, having passed away after foaling Nother Russia, her only foal produced.
Gimme A Nother’s second dam being the mighty Mother Russia (bred by Normandy Stud), began her career with Joey Ramsden before being sold, where she transferred to the stable of Mike de Kock and raced in the colours of Mary Slack’s Wilgerbosdrift famous black and red silks. Mother Russia won four Gr1’s, awarded Equus Champion Older Filly/Mare in 2010 with 13 wins to her record and over R5,5-million in stakes earned. Mother Russia has indeed left a legacy, having passed away after foaling Nother Russia, her only foal produced.
It is the family that includes the likes of Winter Solstice, Depardieu and Bravura.
Congratulations to the entire team of Gimme A Nother.
