Mauritzfontein based sire Danon Platina has sired his first Black Type winner, as the handsome Great Plains won the HOLLYWOODBETS SHARKS GATECRASHER STAKES (Listed) for owner Mr Nick Jonsson and trainer Justin Snaith on Saturday at Hollywoodbets Greyville.
Bred by Drakenstein Stud and giving Richard Fourie his 334th win to equal Anthony Delpech’s long standing record on a memorable day for Richard Fourie, the grey juvenile gelding has now won three in a row since being in KZN for Champions Season, after finishing unplaced on debut behind the smart filly Little Ballerina in the Cape in January this year.
Nick Jonsson owns two leading Danon Platina’s including Rapidash, a winner earlier this year of the R7,5-million CAPE RACING GOLD RUSH (NBT).
Danon Platina is the first son of world champion super sire Deep Impact to retire to stud in South Africa.
A Gr1 winner and crowned Champion 2YO colt in Japan, Danon Platina won five races from ages 2-6 and three of those wins a Gr1 and two Gr3’s all over a mile, Time Form Rated 119. Deep Impact is the sire of amongst others, Auguste Rodin.

Another of Danon Platina’s progeny deserving of a Graded Stakes win is White Pearl, who has finished second in the Gr3 Starling Stakes, Fillies Mile, Mother Russia Stakes and Sycamore Sprint! Danon Platina is producing an Average Earnings Per Runner of over R50 000.
Great Plains sold for R700 000 at the Cape Premier Yearling Sale in 2023, out of Var mare Mara. His half brother by Querari sold for R1-million this year at the renewal of the aforementioned sale earlier this year. It is the immediate family of Gr2 Kenilworth Premiers winner, Hoedspruit.
