Racing and breeding stalwart and international Golfing legend Gary Player enjoyed a superb Saturday at Hollywoodbets Greyville, first off with Double Grand Slam winning the Gr2 East Coast Radio Tibouchina Stakes and following up with a Gr1 win as breeder and co-owner of the handsome Dave The King.
As the favourites hot up for a highly competitive Hollywoodbets Durban July field this year, Dave The King made it two wins in a row in the warm winter province of KZN, coming off a win at Hollywoodbets Scottsville over 1500min the middle of May to follow through with a Gr1 win over a mile in the Gr1 Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge. Out of Touche by Jet Master, it was the first time jockey Muzi Yeni had swung his legs over the big son of Global View and won as far as he liked, ending with Cousin Casey finishing two lengths off in second place. Trained by Mike de Kock for his 139th Gr1 career win, Dave The King is raced in partnership between his breeder Gary Player, Larry Nestadt and Ralphs Racing (Nom: Miss K Ralphs).
Dave The King has placed in three Gr1’s prior, two of them in second place. The powerful De Kock racing stable dedicated Dave The King’s win to long time groom Oupa Lucas Mosala, who passed away recently at Summerveld from a heart attack at age 55.

Global View, a son of Galileo stands at Ascot Stud and has produced four Black Type Wins this season, and 43% winners to runners. He is also the sire of 15-time winner, Global Drummer.
The Varsfontein beautifully-bred daughter of Vercingetorix out of Princess Peach by Captain Al, Double Grand Slam, won the the Tibouchina in a dominating fashion to give jockey Richard Fourie an unforgettable milestone of 335 winners in the season, to produce a new South African record for jockey Richard Fourie who bettered Anthony Delpech’s longstanding record of 334 wins in a season.
Trained by Justin Snaith and owned in partnership between Gary Player, Suzette Viljoen and Dave MacLean, the filly registered her fifth win and third Graded Stakes win of her career. Sold for R1-million at the 2022 National Yearling Sale, this is the family of Sentbydestiny, Badgers Cove and American Princess. Her half sister Peaches And Cream sold to Dave Abery for R825 000 at Nationals earlier this year.
Vercingetorix enjoyed another good feature day, producing two feature winners on the day and the broodmare sire of Whistle The Tune, winner of the Hollywoodbets Super League Devon Air Stakes (Listed).
