Vercingetorix Kickstarts Broodmare Sire Career With Feature Winner

Saturday saw Maine Chance Farms leading sire Vercingetorix not only enjoy a Listed and Gr2 winner on the day, but also a Listed winner as a broodmare sire.

Oldlands Stud-bred Whistle The Tune gave Sandy and Eugene Arundel another Black Type win for the season, victorious in the HOLLYWOODBETS SUPER LEAGUE DEVON AIR STAKES (Listed) with their daughter of Captain Of All out of Vercingetorix mare, the filly sold for just R140 000 at the 2023 Cape Yearling Sale.

Providing Richard Fourie with his 334th season winner, the Glen Kotzen trained filly has had six runs for two wins, only out of the cheques on one occasion and has earned her connections R276,513 to date, excluding the R100 000 BSA Bonus cheque she earned her owners earlier in the season. This is the family of Lucky Find, Gimme A Shot and Light Of The Moon.

According to Nhra.co.za, this is Vercingetorix’s first winner and Black Type achiever as a broodmare sire.

He enjoyed another exemplary day, producing the earlier reported Gr2 EAST COAST RADIO TIBOUCHINA STAKES (Grade 2) to give Richard Fourie a new South African record of most rides in a season of 335, bettering Anthony Delpechs long standing record.

The other Vercingetorix to step up to the mark on Saturday was Oriental Charm, winning smartly in the HOLLYWOODBETS DOLPHINS CUP TRIAL (Grade 3) for owners Messrs Greg Bortz and Leon Ellman and Ms Gina Goldsmith and quite possibly stamping his place in the upcoming Gr1 Hollywoodbets Durban July. Winning under JP van der Merwe for trainer Brett Crawford, Oriental Charm out of Souk by Greys Inn (his broodmare sire a winner of the Durban July) is bred by Cheveley Stud.
