Peter and Jenny Blyth’s Clifton Stud dominated the KZN Breeders Day, achieving not only a double on the day but an exacta in the headline feature of the day, the KZN Breeders Mile, which saw their Equus 2YO Champion filly Mrs Geriatrix (Vercingetorix) find her best form again to win from Clifton-bred Prince Of Taranto.
From the nine races carded and two wins, Clifton also had five places through the day.
Proud Master (Master Of My Fate) got up on the line to beat Mr Henley, owned by Mr Erich Buhr and trained by Stuart Ferrie. There is a full brother on offer at the KZN Yearling Sale coming up this week, as Lot 188. It was the 7th career victory for the big handsome bay sprinter, who won this race previously, the KWAZULU-NATAL BREEDERS 1200 in 2022.

Mrs Geriatrix put her best foot forward, winning the mile comfortably under her regular pilot and champion jockey elect Richard Fourie. Relishing the Hollywoodbets Greyville turf, Richard was able to ease her to the line whilst Prince Of Taranto (Crusade) was putting in a top effort under Smanga Khumalo to catch the diminutive daughter of Vercingetorix but could only get a length behind her on the post, to capture her seventh career victory for The Magical Lady Syndicate (Nom: Natalie Turner).
Trainer Sean Tarry enjoyed another great day with three winners, a race meeting he has always supported and excelled at.
Clifton Stud are on 45% winners to runners for the season and present another eye catching draft ahead of the KZN Yearling Sale, which features a Canford Cliffs half brother to Hollywoodbets Durban July favourite Flag Man, beautifully named Lord Wimborne.
The dam of Mrs Geriatrix, a thorough Clifton pedigree, this is the family of Fort Vogue, Prince Of Kahal, Warm White Night, Whatalady, Prince Asad and Highland Night to name but a few. Clifton Stud also have Lot 66 American Socialite on offer at the KZN Yearling Sale from this special family, a daughter of New Predator out of Duke of Marmalade mare, Duchess of Windsor. She in turn is out of Whatalady.
Congratulations to Clifton Stud and KZN Breeders on a great day.
