Three stallions have had their siblings win in the space of a week, including two in one day at Hollywoodbets Scottsville.
Master Archie
Majestic Palace, a half brother by Potala Palace to Gr1 Computaform Sprint and Gr3 Man O’ War Sprint winner Master Archie, won for the third time at Turffontein over 1800m, trained by father and son partnership, Mike and Adam Azzie who have had a great association with the grey son of Rafeef’s family.
Owned by Mr CJ Augustin, Majestic Palace is out of La Volta by Var, from the female line of Sarabande. It’s a running family with Master Casper (Querari) winning in May and running second on two occasions recently.
Standing at Winterbach Stud and a proven cross of Rafeef x Var, 7-time winner Master Archie is expecting his first foals of the season very soon and will be standing for a fee of R7000 live foal.
Malmoos
Sunday at Hollywoodbets Scottsville saw Varsfontein owned and bred Mascherina (Gimmethegreenlight), a half sister to Ridgemont South Africa’s Malmoos, win for the third time and yet to be out of the money in all seven of her starts.
She has won over 1400m – 1600m and is trained by Peter Muscutt. Malmoos, an SA Triple Crown winner, is standing for R25 000 live foal this coming season. By Captain Al and a winner of seven races over distances of 1200-2450m, Malmoos had his first foals on the ground in 2023 and is expecting his second crop this season. A R4,4-million yearling off the National Yearling Sale, he has a Vercingetorix half brother on offer at the August 2YO Sale bred and consigned by Varsfontein Stud as Lot 180. This is the family of Hashtagyolo, Master Of My Fate and Covenant.
Talk Of The Town
The final to feature was the exceptionally handsome Backworth Stud-bred Harley Street (Var), a lightly raced full brother to sire Talk Of The Town. A lightly raced 4yo gelding who Tony Rivalland expressed has been frustratingly plagued with a variety of issues over his racing career, Harley Street also has an Act Of War half brother headed to the August 2YO Sale under the flag of Camargue Stud, as Lot 303.
Out of imported Street Cry mare Street Wise, it’s the family of super sires Redoute’s Choice and Manhattan Rain. Owned by Mrs Mary Liley, it was his second win to date over 1500m, winning in a competitive field.
Talk Of The Town has produced two winners this season with 14 places, and stands for R20 000 live foal this season at Avontuur Estate, the home of his late sire, Var. Talk Of The Town has three horses on offer at the August 2YO Sale, including a Black Type sibling to Lady Sanza, and Lot 4, a half brother to Gr3 Caradoc Gold Cup and Gold Bowl winner, Sunshine Silk and Enchanted Silk.
