Maine Chance Farms’ Vercingetorix has made a habit of reminding us just how good he is — and his progeny’s performances at Hollywoodbets Scottsville this weekend did exactly that.
Known for siring horses that can do a bit of everything, Vercingetorix’s versatility was once again on full display with wins across the board.
O’Tenikwa Takes the N Full Flight Handicap (Listed)
O’Tenikwa, bred by La Plaisance and trained by Andre Nel, picked up his first stakes victory when he stormed home to win the Listed N Full Flight Handicap over 1400m. Already a multiple winner, the lightly raced four-year-old is showing all the signs of a horse that’s still improving — and living up to the strong Vercingetorix standard.
Quickstepgal Dances Away with the Grade 3 Strelitzia Stakes
The speedy Quickstepgal, bred by Marsh Shirtliff’s Greenacres Trust who is enjoying a tremendous time recently as a breeder, gave trainer Tienie Prinsloo his first Graded Stakes winner, capturing the Grade 3 Tote Strelitzia Stakes over 1100m in style. It was her second win from just three starts — a bright start for the two-year-old filly who looks like she’ll be making plenty more headlines down the line.
Elegantrix Shines in the Grade 3 Godolphin Barb Stakes
Not to be outdone, Elegantrix, another exciting two-year-old, followed up in the Grade 3 Tote Godolphin Barb Stakes. Giving her breeder Marsh Shirtliff a double and this time bred in partnership with Hemel ‘N Aarde Stud, she is trained by Corne Spies, she’s now two wins from four starts — another sharp juvenile adding to her sire’s growing list of top-class young horses.
Mai Sensation Continues the Family Legacy in the Poinsettia Stakes
And to round off a big afternoon for the bloodline, Mai Sensation — a daughter of Vercingetorix mare Mai Thai — bagged the Grade 3 Dennis Drier Poinsettia Stakes over 1200m. Bred by Clifton Stud and trained by Lucinda Woodruff, she continues to highlight how Vercingetorix’s influence is filtering through to his daughters as valuable broodmares too. This is her fourth career win to date, winning in the familiar colours of Greg Bortz and Gina Goldsmith.
Congratulations to all concerned.
