Mia Moo Delivers Grade 1 Glory in SA Fillies Sprint

In a thrilling finish at Hollywoodbets Scottsville, Mia Moo, a daughter of Vercingetorix, showcased her tenacity clinching the Grade 1 SA Fillies Sprint, sponsored by The Witness. Trained by Sean Tarry and owned by Itssa IT Business Solutions (Pty) Ltd alongside World Sports Betting (Nom: Mr W Tannous), Mia Moo’s victory adds a significant feather to her cap and another individual Gr1 winner for her sire, Vercingetorix.

Mia Moo was consigned at the 2022 BSA National Yearling Sale, where she was offered by breeders Klawervlei Stud and sold for R300 000. She is out of the mare Leeward, herself by Captain Al, from the family of sprinting champions Shea Shea and Fov’s Favourite.

Vercingetorix, a multiple Grade 1 winner himself, will stand for a fee of R300 000 (R50 000 nomination) this season, announced by Maine Chance Farms. His offspring have consistently demonstrated versatility and excellence on the track, with notable Grade 1 winners including Mrs Geriatrix, Double Grand Slam, Cousin Casey, and Pomp And Power. His daughter, a Gr1 Computaform Sprint runner-up Golden Sickle is currently in quarantine getting ready for export.

Adding to his impressive legacy, Vercingetorix’s talented son, Oriental Charm, has also been announced to retire to stud in 2025. This marks an exciting new chapter for the Vercingetorix and promises to extend his impact on South African breeding for years to come.

Mia Moo’s victory was hard-fought, holding off a late surge from Asiye Phambili (What A Winter) to win by a nose, with just 0.30 lengths separating the top four finishers. Clocking 68.36 seconds over 1200m, this win marks Mia Moo’s sixth career victory trained by Scottsville sprint master Sean Tarry, bringing her earnings to R1,300,825. This is her third win a row.

Vercingetorix is enjoying a stellar season, with over 54% winners to runners and R131,047 in Average Earnings Per Runner. He is currently on 25 Black Type wins for the season, and approximately R10-million ahead in stakes earned.
