Buffalo Bill Cody Celebrates First G1 Winner

Young Wilgerbosdrift stallion Buffalo Bill Cody made a powerful statement on Sunday when his son, Buffalo Storm Cody, stormed to victory in the G1 Mercury Sprint at Hollywoodbets Greyville.

From a relatively small debut crop, the son of Redoute’s Choice has already produced a top-flight winner, with Buffalo Storm Cody delivering a commanding performance in the R1 million sprint over 1200m.

Trained by Tony Peter, the three-year-old colt was confidently ridden by Gavin Lerena, surging home to win by more than a length and a half, securing the biggest win of his career and notching his fourth win from his last five outings.

Bred by Narrow Creek Stud who have enjoyed two winners in the last three years of this race, Buffalo Storm Cody has now won five of his 12 starts, including this season’s Mythical Flight Sprint. Out of the Trippi mare Musical Romance, the colt races in the silks of Kestorm Investments, and was a R410,000 purchase at the 2023 Cape Yearling Sale.

Buffalo Bill Cody’s momentum doesn’t end there. On Saturday, his daughter Rifle Queen made a dazzling debut at Turffontein, becoming his fourth two-year-old winner this season — further evidence that this exciting young sire is one to watch.
