Summerhill Equestrian’s Act Of War looks to have produced another strong Triple Tiara candidate since his brilliant Equus Award winning daughter, War Of Athena, after Breedon Stud-bred Hazy Dazy won the first leg of the Triple Tiara, the WILGERBOSDRIFT GAUTENG FILLIES GUINEAS (Grade 2) under apprentice jockey Trent Mayhew, trained by Corne Spies. Out of Eightfold Path mare Rabbadoe and a BSA online sales graduate of only R37500, Hazy Dazy reigns from the old Scott Bros’ female line of Gr1 winner Scarena, and African Grey.

A winner of the Gr3 Filies Mile in her previous start for excited owners Mr D Dasrath & Mrs C Dasrath, Messrs R P Macnab, S Poriazis, Vikash Sobaren, X Spies & D Vayapuri, Hazy Dazy was raised at Wynnholme Stud by Ingrid Klug for the Late Dave Makins of Breedon Stud. In recent years Ingrid has enjoyed success with the likes of Shoot The Rapids, and had a hand in raising Miss Marmalade for breeder Clive Murphy – the dam of Gr1 winner Kingdundee and Gr2 winner Princess Of Gaul.
Act Of War has enjoyed his fair share of Black Type winners and performances over the years, and stands for a very accessible R10 000 service fee excl vat at Summerhill Equestrian. A winner of the Gr1 Cape Guineas and a 16.2hh imposing son of Dynasty, his popularity is continued in KZN amongst the breeders. He is currently on a stat of 31.1% winners to runners.
Hazy Dazy has won five races of her seven starts to date. War Of Athena’s only produce to date after sadly passing away post birth, a filly by Vercingetorix, has been exported to England by owner and breeders, Mrs Rose Waterman-Wentzel of Twilight Moon.
Mike and Mathew de Kock-trained Splittheeights galloped to a convincing victory under Raymond Danielson in the TAB GAUTENG GUINEAS (Grade 2), to give owner Mr Jason Murugasa a ticket to potential Triple Crown victory an give the father-son training duo their first win under their new sponsorship, Lucky Fish.

The Vercingetorix colt, also a Gr3 winner in his previous start and bred by Ridgemont South Africa, is a half-brother to 16-time winner William Robertson (Rafeef), both out of Trippi mare Massachusetts. It was an exacta result for sire Vercingetorix, as Grand Empire finished in second place.
This is the family of Silver Arc, Spanish Drummer and Stormy Appeal, and the colt was consigned on behalf of Ridgemont from Boland Stud’s draft as agent for R600 000 at the 2024 August 2YO Sale.
Vercingetorix is currently the leading sire of South Africa, with earnings of R19,344,887 and an AEPR of R87,139, with 42.3% winners to runners. He stands at Maine Chance Farms. Ridgemont SA are enjoying another successful season with over R9-million in stakes earned and winners to runners percentage of 42.1%.
