South African-bred champion Gimme A Nother added another remarkable chapter to her international career at Woodbine on Saturday, producing a courageous performance to win the Gr1 E.P. Taylor Stakes and secure her place in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, the daughter of Gimmethegreenlight and champion mare Nother Russia, by Tiger Ridge, has now won 11 of her 15 career starts.
Unbeaten in seven starts in South Africa, Gimme A Nother established herself among the country’s outstanding fillies with victories in the Gr1 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Classic and Gr1 TAB Empress Club Stakes, earning Champion 3YO Filly honours before continuing her career in the United States.
Trained by Mike de Kock in South Africa, and now trained by Graham Motion for Jessica and Steven Jell’s Newstead Stables LLC, she has continued to enhance her formidable record abroad. Her North American successes include the Gr2 John C. Mabee Stakes at Del Mar in 2025, followed this season by the Gr3 Eatontown Stakes at Monmouth Park and Gr2 Beverly D. Stakes at Colonial Downs.
Saturday’s victory at Woodbine represented her first North American Gr1 success and her fourth consecutive victory.
The result also adds further distinction to an exceptional South African female family. Gimme A Nother is out of multiple Gr1 winner and South African champion Nother Russia, herself a daughter of another champion in Mother Russia. Nother Russia has produced four winners from four runners to date.
Still owned internationally by her South African breeders Mauritzfontein through Newstead Stables LLC, Gimme A Nother now heads towards the Gr1 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf at Keeneland with a remarkable international record behind her.
Her sire Gimmethegreenlight stands at Varsfontein Stud. His sire More Than Ready has produced three Breeders Cup winners to date. This is the second international Gr1 winner for Gimmethegreenlight, after Yulong Prince (Surcharge) won in Australia.
A tremendous achievement for South African breeding and a proud flag-bearer for the country on the international stage!
