Drakenstein Stud enjoyed a superb start to the Hollywoodbets Durbanville card on Sunday, breeding the winners of the first three races – Le Soleil, Swaziland and Verse For Suzanne.

The treble was underpinned by some exceptional broodmare talent.

Le Soleil, a son of Vercingetorix, opened his account in the first race. He is out of Drakenstein’s outstanding What A Winter mare Clouds Unfold, a nine-time winner whose stellar career included back-to-back victories in the Gr1 Majorca Stakes, as well as the Gr2 Western Cape Fillies Championship, Gr2 Sceptre Stakes and Gr3 Cape of Good Hope Nursery. She was also Gr1-placed in both the Paddock Stakes and Cape Fillies Guineas.

The beautifully bred Verse For Suzanne, also by Vercingetorix, completed the treble in Race 3 and boasts an equally formidable dam in Oh Susanna.

The daughter of Street Cry won six races during an exceptional career, including four at Gr1 level, two renewals of the Paddock Stakes, the Sun Met and Woolavington 2000. Oh Susanna was crowned South African Horse of the Year, Champion 3YO Filly and Champion Middle Distance Horse in 2017/18, before returning the following season to earn Champion Older Filly/Mare honours.

Sandwiched between the pair was Swaziland, a son of Soqrat out of the Legislate mare Swazi Queen, who became a winner with her first foal.

The treble also handed Vercingetorix a double on the card, courtesy of the progeny of two exceptional racemares in Clouds Unfold and Oh Susanna.

Congratulations to Drakenstein Stud on a memorable breeder treble with a pair of superb broodmares.
