ROYAL PREROGATIVE (GB) 1969, a chestnut colt by RELKO (GB) out of BRIDE ELECT (GB) by BIG GAME (IRE). He did one season at stud in England in 1975 (covered a small book of mares) before being brought to South Africa by FORM BLOODSTOCK (Charles Faull & Johan Malherbe) for the Sir Lowry’s Pass Syndicate in 1975, to stand at BROADLANDS STUD with Pat O’Neill.
His father RELKO won the Epsom Derby and the French Two Thousand Guineas (the Poule d’Essai des Poulains) in 1963. ROYAL PREROGATIVE was the only son of RELKO to stand at stud in South Africa. His mother, BRIDE ELECT, was the runaway winner (5 lengths) of the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot in her 3yo year (1955).
PRIZED (IRE) 1958, a bay colt by PRINCE CHEVALIER (FR) out of BRIDE ELECT (GB) by BIG GAME (IRE), the older ½ brother to ROYAL PREROGATIVE, stood at stud in South Africa for three years from 1963 to 1965 before he died as a very young stallion. He did produce 6 stakes winners from the three small crops and his daughter DADDYS GIRL was the dam of FLY BY NIGHT by Preamble II – 9 wins, including the 1976 Green Point Stakes and ran 3rd to Politician in the 1977 Cape Guineas (Sire).
ROYAL PREOROGATIVE made a fantastic start to his stud career in South Africa producing 7 Stakes Winners from his first crop of foals.
He was the Champion Sire of South Africa for the 1987/88 season (Top 3 finish on 5 other occasions), an extremely successful sire of two year olds and a brilliant broodmare sire.
